"The federal government is weakened, the country becomes more regionalized. It becomes a more unjust and more unequal society bit by bit. This is (the conservatives') long-term strategic plan," he said.
Harper has been Prime Minister for three years, and people can see for themselves that it hasn't turned into a fascist dictatorship. They need new talking points, they are plain out of ideas.
Yes, Harper's long term secretive plan is to destroy Canada and stip us of our rights and freedoms. That's why he's gone through all the effort to become PM. Got it.
ReplyDeleteThe Tories are main stream, centrists. It's so silly this line.
ReplyDeleteNo, the hidden agenda theme is a big seller with Ontario voters. The press also promotes the hidden agenda. And it works, people really believe it. Just look at the results, Martin/Chretien slashed transfer payments to the provinces. Mike Harris was blamed for all the cut backs. Martin was seen as a hero for balancing the budget. The real hidden agenda is the press propaganda promoting the Liberals. No other country`s media refer to a political party as "the natural ruling party".
ReplyDeleteI think you guys are giving way too much credit to voters. The hidden agenda idea, is a big seller for the Liberals. It works!
Ask yourself, what sort of person would vote Liberal right after they were caught committing a criminal act? This is the sort of lock the Liberal Party have over Toronto voters. Compare that with the Kim Campbell PCs taking two seats. The PC voter would not blindly vote for Kim Campbell. A lot of Liberal seats are so safe, they would elect Charles Manson as their MP.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you to an extent, but I will give enough credit to voters that after three years with Harper as PM, all those scary scenarios never happened. I'm hoping they can trust their eyes. And, you're right, it might play well in Ontario, I haven't lived there in 15 years, but here in the west that doesn't go over with most people. The Liberals only seem to get elected in Ontario, and that seems to reflect that. I think the Liberals, if they're smart would get some new talking points.
ReplyDeleteVancouver seems to vote Liberal. Take a look at that Hedy Fry character. She was caught in open lie regarding white supremacists burning crosses on people`s front lawns. What sort of person would vote to re-elect someone that made up such a story.Well I will tell you, Liberal voters. Alberta is the only place without Liberals. The East Coast, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Vancouver, they all elect Liberals regardless of any issue what so ever. This even includes the Liberal Party breaking the law.
ReplyDeleteI agree Anon. The hidden agenda will work and it always has worked on all the urban centres in Canada. I live in Toronto and can tell you that most look at the Tories like hicks from Alberta. That image is almost impossible to change. Perhaps if Joe Clark won the leadership, changed the name back to Progressive Conservative and had a platform further left than the Liberals they just might win a break through of 2-3 seats in the GTA.
ReplyDeleteIt's true too. Conservative leaning voters will punish their own when needed. Liberal leaning voters never do. They would elect a convicted murderer to parliament if the the convict ran under a Liberal banner. At best they might sit on their hands and not vote but most would.
Even worse are the English in Montreal that continue to vote Liberal. They had their civil rights taken away, and the Ottawa Liberals did nothing for them. The Quebec Sign Law is something right out of 1935 Germany.
ReplyDeleteBack to Toronto. I remember many TV news interviews of Toronto voters during the Martin Harper election. I just could not believe people saying they would Liberal, despite the criminal activity.
It reminds me of those older Russians that say Stalin was okay, because at least he provided stability.
"It reminds me of those older Russians that say Stalin was okay, because at least he provided stability."
ReplyDeleteLOL! I felt the same way as you during that election. Statements by Joe Blow in TO/MON/VAN to the media went something like this, "I'm really not happy about the sponsership but what choice do I have? I just don't trust Harper." It drove me nuts. It still does.
