My Prediction: The Cards have never seen a defense like this and Pittsburgh are going to kill them. I've watched many Steelers games this year. Physically, they are terrifying. The outside linebackers, LaMarr Woodley and defensive player of the year James Harrison are like panzer generals Rommel and Guderian. Speed, craftiness and brute force. The entire Pittsburgh defense hit hard and finish tackles. I don't know if you saw safety Ryan Clark's hit on Baltimore running back Willis McGahee in the AFC Championship. It was a clean hit, but McGahee was taken off the field in an ambulance. It was horrifying. These Cardinals have no idea what they're getting themselves into.
The Cards are a trendy pick. I've heard pundits say, the Steeler defense is just like the Philly defense, the team Arizona beat in the NFC Championship. Nonsense. The Eagles blitz a lot, that is the only similarity. They don't have the power, and they don't have the scheme. Pitt's 3-4 defense is always a zone. Normally I hate zone defense, but if you do it right, it's unpredictable. The Cards aren't going to know who to block.
Kurt Warner is getting all the press as the feel good story. Forget it. When he played for the Giants he was rattled in the pocket when it was a strong pass rush. (Believe me, I watched every damn game he played in blue.) The feet start getting busy, the eyes start shifting horizontal instead of up field. He was a chronic fumbler.
I'm not crazy about Pitt's offense. Big Ben Roethlisberger, Fast Willy Parker and Hines Ward will do enough. The Cards have Larry Fitzgerald, the best receiver in football. He will be double and triple teamed and hit at the line of scrimage. Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships.
24-10 for the Steelers.
UPDATE: I know the Super Bowl Halftime Show is supposed to be over-the-top but that was embarrassing.
I liked Sylvio better when he was a gangster.
Still not getting the whole Springsteen thing.
UPDATE II: What a finish!!!!!

Best Super Bore I mean Bowl ever. Too bad about the missed call at the end of the game. That was a forward passing motion, not a fumble. Warner would have had one more play before time expired.
ReplyDeleteThey may have to put an asterisk beside the Steelers win in the record book.
I think they should change that rule to something less judgmental. How about if the ball goes over the line of scrimmage, it is an incomplete pass. Falling short of the scrimmage line makes it a fumble. That would be a lot easier for the refs.
